ALROSA says to cut production on Severalmaz in 2020
MOSCOW, Jun 5 (PRIME) -- Russian diamond producer ALROSA would reduce 2020 output on the Lomonosovsky ore-dressing plant of unit Severalmaz, which produced 4.2 million carats in 2019 as the key sales markets are closed and demand slumped in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the company said in a statement late on Thursday.
Lomonosovsky ore-dressing plant produced 1.04 million carats of diamonds, or 13% of ALROSA’s total output in the first quarter of 2020.
Works on the ore-dressing plant were halted on May 16 and can resume on July 1 for three months to be suspended until the end of the year. Mining stopped on May 12 and can resume on November 1.
Most Severalmaz employees are on forced downtime with payments as provided by the collective agreement or on a rotational leave.
